A set in 1:72 scale from MARS Model. The box holds four siege bombards and twenty-four crew figures in six poses. The parts come unpainted and have to be assembled. The subject is Polish siege equipment of the first half of the fifteenth century, that is the time when gunpowder was beginning to make its way into the taking of castles.
The bombard was a large-caliber siege gun with a short barrel, usually laid in a wooden bed sunk into the ground. It was loaded from the front, fired stone balls, and a long time passed between shots, because the barrel had to cool. Even so it was more effective against walls than any older siege engine, and in the Polish-Lithuanian campaigns it proved itself at the sieges of the Order's castles.
Line the parts up dry first, above all the seating of the barrel in the bed. Paint the wooden bed with an ocher base and a brown glaze drawn along the grain, and leave the barrel dark metal with a hint of rust. Set the crew out according to the logic of the work, that is loading, wedging and firing. A base with earth, stone balls and a little heap of powder turns a static set into a scene.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
