An injection-molded plastic kit of the French light tank Renault FT-17 in the version with the riveted multi-sided turret, in 1:72 scale from Flyhawk. This variant captures the angular turret riveted up from plates (the Berliet type), which could take a machine gun or a gun. The box usually holds parts for two tanks, fine photo-etched parts and a decal sheet. Flyhawk stands out for precise molding, so even the small FT-17 offers fine detail including suggested rivets.
The Renault FT was a landmark French light tank of the end of the First World War, regarded as the forerunner of the modern tank layout: a rotating turret with the armament, the engine at the rear, the crew at the front. The riveted multi-sided turret was one of the early versions and could take either an 8 mm Hotchkiss machine gun or a short 37 mm Puteaux gun. The tank was produced in huge numbers, served in many armies and in various forms stayed in service long after the war.
The model has small, fine parts, so work patiently and with a sharp knife. Bond the photo-etched parts with super glue (cyanoacrylate) and the plastic with thin cement for plastic. Lay down primer and spray the typical period multi-color camouflage with its dark dividing bands with an airbrush. A fine wash and dry paint on the edges will bring out the suggested rivets beautifully, and dust and mud belong on the running gear.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
