A plastic kit of the Savoia-Marchetti SM.79 Sparviero (Italeri) in 1:72 scale — an Italian three-engine Second World War bomber.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the Italian three-engine bomber in 1:72 scale from Italeri. It depicts the elegant SM.79 Sparviero (Hawk) with its characteristic dorsal hump and trio of engines. The package includes gray plastic parts with clearly readable detail, clear glazing parts, a decal sheet, and an illustrated instruction sheet; some elements can be built in more than one configuration according to the instructions. The model builds as a classic kit suited to more advanced beginners as well as experienced builders.
The SM.79 Sparviero was created in the mid-1930s and was originally meant to serve as a fast transport and mail aircraft. During the Second World War, however, it made its mark mainly as a bomber and, above all, as a feared torpedo bomber in the Mediterranean, where it threatened Allied convoys. Its three engines gave it decent speed and range for the time; the characteristic hump above the cockpit earned it a nickname referring to its silhouette. It is one of the most famous Italian aircraft of the era.
Test-fit the parts dry before gluing, and expect some seams to need light cleanup and filling. Finish the cockpit and bomb bay first, and only then close the fuselage. Use thin liquid plastic cement, a primer, and an airbrush; mask the extensive glazing before painting. Italian camouflage schemes come to life with subtle tonal transitions, washes in the engraved lines, and restrained weathering.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints, and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
