1:72 U-VII crew (guard with binoculars) (3 fig.)

What the set contains

Three figures of the crew of a Type VII submarine in 1:72 scale. The subject of the set is a lookout with binoculars, that is a scene from the conning tower where one of the men is searching the horizon. The posture of the other two figures can be seen in the manufacturer's illustration.

What the figures bring to the model

A submarine is a long smooth hull on which the viewer's eye has nothing to catch, and without a comparison they judge the size badly. A figure on the bridge changes that at once: it gives the model scale and at the same time adds a story, because a lookout on the tower is the state in which a submarine spent most of its time on the surface. The figures work equally well on a diorama beside a quay or on a display scene with a section of water surface.

Building and painting tips

Cut the excess material and production marks away with a sharp blade a short distance from the figure and sand the remainder gently. Wash and degrease the figures before painting. Choose the glue according to the material: on parts that are not polystyrene, ordinary modeling cement does not hold and cyanoacrylate is needed. In 1:72 scale a figure measures about two and a half centimeters, so paint with thinly diluted paint in several coats and keep the shades subdued. A dark glaze settles into the folds of the clothing and a lighter tone drawn on dry pulls out the shoulders, the collar and the hands. Two tones are enough for a face; do not paint eyes in this scale.

Who it is for

For builders of submarine models in 1:72 scale and for makers of naval dioramas who want somebody on the deck.

The submarine model, paints and glue are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
