The Douglas XA2D-1 Skyshark 1:72 is a finely worked injection-molded plastic kit of the American carrier attack aircraft prototype from Clear Prop Models, with provision for four color schemes.
Responsibility details are not available.
This injection-molded plastic kit in 1:72 scale represents the experimental American Douglas XA2D-1 Skyshark carrier attack aircraft with turboprop power and coaxial propellers. It is a more demanding kit of the Advanced range from Clear Prop Models, which besides plastic contains a clear part, photo-etched parts and masking templates. The package offers decals for four color schemes.
The XA2D-1 was a prototype developed for the US Navy at the turn of the 1940s and 1950s as a successor to a piston-engine attack aircraft. It was powered by a turboprop engine with a pair of contra-rotating propellers, which was a technically advanced but troublesome concept. The program never reached series production, yet it is an interesting stage in the development of carrier aviation.
It is a more demanding kit with a great many parts and photo-etched components, suitable for more experienced modelers. Clean the parts up, bend the photo-etched components with regard to the material and use thin cement for plastic, and super glue for the photo-etched parts. The masks enclosed will make painting the cockpit easier. Apply the shades with an airbrush in thin coats and concentrate on the cleanliness of the coaxial propellers.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
