The number 69.061 stands in the Vallejo range right after old gold and is the redder of the two. What is interesting is that while the manufacturer lists the gold shades of this group as glossy, copper was given a matte version. It makes sense: copper on a machine that works somewhere loses its mirror after a few weeks and starts to dull toward a brownish pink. A matte finish hits that state better than a polished surface.
Most often on the runs: cooling hoses, fuel lines, thin tubes along legs and joints. Further on contacts, coils, pickups and anywhere you want to suggest a conductive connection. On dioramas it helps on small boilers, distillation tubes and vessels. Modelers have also taken to it as a ground for verdigris, because a dark green wash applied over a copper ground creates a convincing patina in a single step.
It is always better to lay a metallic paint over a smooth and even ground, as metallic pigments bring out irregularities in what is beneath. Proceed in thin coats and let them dry between each other. An airbrush manages the paint without thinning; by brush it is advisable to draw in one direction so that the flakes line up. A dry brush works excellently on edges with this shade.
Seventeen milliliters of acrylic, with water as the thinner. The metallic pigment settles, so shake the bottle every time, not only when you first open it. It is good to wipe the mouth of the dropper after work, or a dried layer will narrow the passage.
