The designation Natural means that the grains do not have a uniform color. Lighter and darker stones meet in the mix and the result therefore reads as material carried in by water from several different rocks, not as dyed rubble from a single sack. This lack of uniformity is the greatest strength of the shade, because it is exactly what a real river bed has.
The coarser grade holds its shape even under a layer of model water and does not wash apart when poured over. A ford, a gravel bar in a bend of the flow or an exposed bed in a dry season can be laid out from it. Under clear resin the variety of color is brought out still more, because the sheen of the surface adds depth to the stones.
The bag holds 353 cm3 of rubble. It is scattered into the bed dry, then sprinkled carefully with thinned glue from a dropper, so that the flow does not wash the material away. Only a perfectly dried bed will take being poured over with water medium. Typical uses:
A stream takes on its most interesting form when almost nothing flows in it. A narrow runnel stays in the middle, a gravel area is exposed around it and at the edges a fine deposit settles with dried cracks. This arrangement lets the material be shown in full, because water medium covers it only in a narrow strip. Added washed-up twigs and caught grass then tell where the high water ran.
