Omask — foam for making plugs, 5 mm (100x150 mm), 2 sheets

The package contains two sheets of flexible foam 5 mm thick and 100x150 mm in size from the Czech manufacturer Omask. According to the manufacturer it is EVA foam in a blue version. It is not a finished plug for a particular model — it is stock from which you cut the plugs yourself.

Where the point lies: Omask makes finished landing gear bay plugs for a number of particular kits. But anyone building a model for which no finished set exists — an older kit, a less usual type, a vacform or resin kit — has nothing to reach for. This foam is meant for exactly that case. You cut a plug to fit the bay you happen to have on the table.

Use

• Trace the shape of the bay (a paper template, an imprint, or simply lay the part on the foam).
• Cut the shape out with a sharp scalpel or knife — the manufacturer recommends a sharp blade, as a blunt one tears the foam.
• Dry-fit the plug and adjust it gradually until it holds in the bay by its own springiness.
• Insert the plug before spraying and paint the surrounding areas with no risk of paint getting into the bay.
• Pull the plug out once the paint has dried; the flexible foam leaves no adhesive behind and can be used again.

Who it is for

For modelers who spray with an airbrush and want to keep the landing gear bays (or engine compartments and other openings) clean but have no finished plug available for their particular kit. The 5 mm thickness and two sheets are enough for several sets of plugs.

This is NOT a model. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package. Work on a cutting mat and watch your fingers — the foam only cuts with a really sharp blade.
