A follow-on boxed palette of Game Color acrylics for painters who have already mastered basic covering and want to build coats.
Responsibility details are not available.
The package follows on from the opening palette and adds tones with which a smooth transition can be built without mixing every intermediate step separately. The Game Color line is an acrylic line for gaming figures; the colorant is finely ground and the binder holds together even in a very thin film, which is exactly what layering needs.
The procedure that makes sense on a figure starts with a covering tone, continues with the shadow and ends with the highlight. Lay the covering tone so that the ground is not visible under it but so that it does not flood the engraving. Apply the shadow only into the hollows. Then narrow the highlight with every further coat, so that the last stroke reaches only the edge or the top of a fold.
Straight from the bottle the colorant is thick and in layering it would leave sharp edges. A drop of water on the palette turns it into a material that spreads. Thinning, however, means weaker covering, so instead of one application you lay two or three. It is worth it: three transparent coats look deeper than one opaque one.
An airbrush serves here mainly to lay the ground and to light it from above. The layering itself stays handwork, because the areas are a few tenths of a millimeter wide. If you bring an airbrush in, choose a thinner intended for acrylic and rinse the equipment out straight after spraying, or the remainder in the nozzle will harden. Between individual shades it is enough to draw clean water through; at the end of the work a proper strip-down and cleaning of the needle is in order.
