The color

A cool blue gray, that is, a shade on the boundary between blue and gray, which on a model acts neither as a saturated color nor as a neutral gray. The manufacturer lists it under the names of the robot machines Duel and Blitz, but that does not limit its use: the same tone suits large fuselage areas, the parts of running gear and joints, and any hardware whose surface is meant to be noticed without shouting in color.

Semi-gloss and what follows from it

The finish is semi-gloss, that is, halfway between flat and gloss. Such a surface photographs well, because it does not swallow light the way a flat finish does and at the same time it does not throw sharp reflections the way a gloss does. The practical advantage lies elsewhere: a decal can go onto a semi-gloss coat without silvering being left around it, so the model does not have to be clear coated specially for the decals.

Application tips

• Stir the paint properly before use, the pigment settles at the bottom when left alone.
• Choose the thinner the manufacturer recommends for this range; mixing systems will curdle the paint.
• Spray in thin coats, as a single heavy coat floods the fine relief of the parts.
• The degree of sheen is evened out only by the final clear coat; until you lay it down, areas from different coats may differ.
• Try the shade on a leftover piece of plastic, cool grays appear warmer under artificial light.
