NGA-12 Acrysion Gundam Assemble Color (Base Color) - Silver Metallic

What the paint is for

NGA-12 is a ready metallic silver shade from the range the manufacturer mixes for builders of Gundam robots. It does away with the most unpleasant part of working with a metallic, that is fine-tuning the shade by mixing it yourself and hitting it again once the paint runs out. The Base Color designation places the paint among the base shades of the range, but it can be used anywhere silver is called for: on joint parts, gun barrels, exhausts or for wear on edges.

Properties and application

It is a water-based acrylic paint. Stir it thoroughly before work, because the metallic pigment sinks to the bottom while standing and unstirred paint looks gray rather than metallic once dry. It is applied with a brush as well as an airbrush, always in several thin coats instead of one heavy one. Choose the thinner from the same range, as the manufacturer's instructions state; a thinner for another type of paint may curdle the coat. The base has to be clean and degreased.

Tips for working with a metallic

• A metallic hides nothing, quite the opposite: it emphasizes every scratch and every mark left by abrasive paper, so smooth the surface first.
• Over a dark base the silver comes out deeper, and over a light one brighter.
• With a brush, draw in one direction and do not go back into paint that has set, otherwise the pigment lines up into streaks.
• Let the paint dry properly and seal it with a clear coat before a wash, as a metallic surface is sensitive to further coats.
• Under decals, go over the area with a gloss clear coat so that the edges of the film do not silver.
