A replacement L7A3 gun barrel of 105 mm caliber for models of the Leopard 1 tank in 1:35 scale. It replaces the barrel from the kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Leopard 1 was the West German main battle tank of the 1960s, built rather on mobility and quick fire than on heavy armor. Its main weapon was a rifled gun of 105 mm caliber of British origin, which spread under various licensed designations throughout the Western world. The German variant carries the designation L7A3 and became one of the most widespread tank barrels of its time.
The barrel is the only part of a model on which every deviation shows at first glance. A replacement barrel has an exact circular section along its whole length, keeps the axis and carries a correctly shaped muzzle. It also does away with cleaning up the lengthwise seam if the barrel in the kit is made of two halves, and there is no risk of the thin part bending during the build.
First try the fit of the barrel dry and, if need be, carefully widen the opening in the gun mantlet until the part seats without pressure. The part is not polystyrene, ordinary cement for plastic kits will not hold on it, so use super glue or epoxy. Cut excess material and traces of manufacture away with a sharp blade a little clear of the part and sand the remainder off. Wash and degrease the barrel before painting, otherwise the paint will hold badly on the smooth surface. The details of preparation are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
For builders of Leopard 1 models in 1:35 scale who want the main weapon without a seam and without deformation. Check the fit of the barrel in the gun mantlet dry according to the instructions of your kit. The package holds the barrel. The tank kit, paints and glue are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
