This is a masking accessory, not a kit of an aircraft. The set contains shaped plugs made of flexible foam (EVA), cut to fit the wheel bays of the Focke-Wulf Fw 190 D in 1:48 scale according to the kits from MiniArt. A plug only needs pressing into the open bay: it holds by its own springiness, it is not glued and after spraying it is taken out again.

Wheel bays are among the places that complicate masking most: they have a broken-up shape, sharp corners and while spraying, paint creeps into them along the edges of the tape. A shaped plug fills the bay in one piece, holds a clean edge at the rim and saves work with crepe tape and cotton wool. That pays off especially in 1:48 scale, where the bays are large and detailed and any overspray is clearly visible.

Use

• Paint the bay first and let it dry thoroughly, and only then fit the plug.
• Insert the plug so that it is flush with the rim of the bay, and do not push it deep inside, so that it does not deform the details.
• Spray with an airbrush in the usual way; the foam blocks the bay off even under several coats of paint and clear.
• Once dry, take the plug out with tweezers: with no glue there is no risk of pulling the paint away or of adhesive residue.
• Handled gently, the plugs can be used repeatedly.
