An injection-molded plastic model of the British carrier-based strike aircraft Blackburn Buccaneer S.2D in 1:48 scale from Trumpeter (product code 05845). This is a new tooling with more than 200 parts and the option to build folding wings. The fuselage is broken down modularly (nose, center, and rear sections), which makes detailing easier. Glue and paints are not included in the package.
The Buccaneer was a low-flying carrier-based strike aircraft developed for the Royal Navy to attack surface targets at low altitude and high speed. The S.2 version received powerful Rolls-Royce Spey turbofan engines, which significantly increased range and performance over the original S.1. The S.2D sub-version was adapted to carry Martel anti-ship guided missiles. After being retired from carrier decks, Buccaneers also flew with the RAF in a land-based strike role. The aircraft became known for its exceptionally rugged construction and its ability to attack at extremely low altitude.
We recommend working with liquid plastic cement and paying attention to the joints of the modularly split fuselage — the rear section may need a little filling and re-sanding, since the seam does not fall along a natural panel line. Decide in advance whether you will build the wings folded or spread. Typical finishes are naval dark gray and white (Royal Navy), or a gray-green camouflage. Highlight panel lines with a wash and unify the surface with a semi-matte varnish.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints, and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
