The P-47 Thunderbolt was among the largest and heaviest single-engined fighters of the Second World War. It was powered by a radial piston engine and had a turbocharger in the rear fuselage, which kept its performance at high altitude as well; the ducting to it is also the reason the aircraft had such a bulky fuselage. The armament in the wings consisted of heavy machine guns, and the machine could carry bombs and rockets, so an escort fighter turned into a feared attack aircraft. The earlier series had the fuselage spine carried on behind the cockpit, while the later ones received a bubble canopy and a better view to the rear.
A monograph serves as reference for building a model: you look in it for period photographs, a description of the differences between series and support for choosing a color scheme and markings. On a type as widespread as this the differences between versions show in the shape of the canopy, the propeller and the armament, and that is exactly where literature pays off.
The book is for anyone interested in the US Army Air Forces of the Second World War and for modelers who want documentation for a build. A kit, decals and other modeling goods are not included, unless stated otherwise.
