A selection of water-based acrylic paints from the Game Color line, which Vallejo put together for figures for tabletop games and for fantasy subjects. The set is aimed at flesh, that is at the part of a figure the viewer notices first. The shades in one set come from the same line, so they can be mixed with one another without trouble and the transition between them does not look like a collision of two different colors.
The proven procedure has three steps. First lay the base tone across the whole area of flesh, in thin coats, so that the relief stays visible. Then darken the hollows with a thin paint that runs into the folds around the eyes, under the nose and in the bends of the fingers. Finally raise the places the light falls on: the forehead, the cheekbones, the bridge of the nose and the knuckles. Create the transitions by gradually mixing neighboring shades, not by a sharp pass.
Shake the paints before use and thin them with water or with a thinner for acrylic paints in small amounts. For longer sessions a wet palette pays off, as the tone does not dry on it and can be returned to. Give the figure an evening-out ground first, or the paint will hold badly on smooth plastic. Protect finished work with varnish, because figures are picked up during play and an unprotected surface is rubbed off.
For painters of figures who want the flesh shades together. Figures, brushes and varnish are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
