A synthetic brush with long hair, size 00

Size 00 is among the thinnest used on models. The long hair is not there for looks: the longer the bundle, the more paint it holds and the longer a stroke lasts without reloading. That is decisive with long thin lines, because an interrupted stroke cannot be joined up afterwards without it showing. Synthetic fiber has a springier point than natural hair, one that returns to a tip after a stroke, and it copes better with acrylic paints, after which natural hair hardens easily.

Use

• Load paint onto the tip only and never let it run into the ferrule.
• Draw the hair in a smooth stroke from the start of the line to its end and do not press.
• Clean the brush immediately after work and never leave it standing in water or thinner.
• After washing, shape the point with your fingers and let it dry lying flat.
• Use a different brush for mixing paint and for base coats; save this one for detail.
• Try the paint on the edge of the palette before a stroke, as an overloaded tip makes a blot.

Who it is for

It suits figure painters for faces, eyes, buckles and lettering, and modelers for engraved lines, small controls and touch-ups after masking. It is a tool that wears out, so it pays to keep several in reserve and to use the older ones for coarser work.

Store the brush point up or lying flat, never point down. Keep it out of the reach of children.
