The walking and swimming penguin from Tamiya is a motorized kit that moves both on land and in water once assembled - an ideal first construction project for younger modelers.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is not a scale model of an aircraft or a vehicle but a moving construction kit from the educational line of the Japanese company Tamiya. Once assembled, the penguin figure moves by electric drive: on a firm surface it walks on its feet, and in water it moves by paddling. The set is built around a simple gear mechanism, so while building it clearly shows how the rotary motion of the motor is turned into movement of the limbs.
Tamiya developed this line as an educational aid as well as entertainment - the mechanism stays simple and understandable, yet the result really works. The parts are distinguished by color, so the model makes sense even unpainted; anyone who wants to can fine-tune it with paints. It is precisely the combination of a quick result and understandable mechanics that makes these sets a popular gift and a teaching aid for technical clubs.
Follow the instructions exactly and do not skip the order of the steps - with gears the correct seating of shafts and wheels matters. Do not force the gears together, as they are meant to turn freely; a little lubrication of the gearbox extends its life and quietens the running. Before closing the mechanism up, always check that the gear train turns without catching. If you are going to put the model in water, check that all the joints are properly tightened, and dry it after use.
It is supplied as a kit to be assembled. Batteries, tools and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
