A package of thirty-five self-adhesive wild grass tufts four millimeters tall in a green shade. Meant for finishing bases, dioramas and model railroad layouts.
Responsibility details are not available.
Finished terrain can be perfect in shape and still look dead until plant growth goes onto it. Tufts are stuck down one at a time, so the modeler decides about each one separately: where the grass will be thick, where it only grows thinly through a wheel rut and where boots have trodden it down. It is exactly the irregularity of that placement that makes a scene believable, more than any color does.
Four millimeters match fairly tall grass on small models and, the other way round, low stubble in the large scales. The package holds thirty-five pieces, which is enough for a figure base with something to spare; for a larger scene allow two or three packages. The tufts can be trimmed at an angle with scissors before being stuck down, which loses the regular circular outline and lets the growth blend into its surroundings.
Tufts belong at the very end, after all varnishing and after the dust shades have gone on. Varnish sprayed over finished growth glues the individual fibers together into limp clumps, and that cannot be taken back. If you need to tie the growth in with the terrain in color, reach for dry pigment laid on with a soft brush from above downwards, not for a liquid coat. And when sticking them down, press on the edge of the tuft, not in the middle, or the fibers will splay out to the sides and the tuft will stay flattened. Deliberately tilt a few tufts or bury them partly in dust, so that the scene does not look like a freshly laid and carefully watered lawn in front of a suburban house.
