A copper-brown tone with a warm core

A brown with a red component mixed into it, so the shade never slides into gray dullness. It finds a use on leather straps and satchels, on wooden stocks and handles, on the chestnut fur of animals, on old brick and on a first layer of rust. As it dries the paint retreats from the raised places and gathers in the joints, which draws out stitching and growth rings alike.

When the work goes wrong

Going over a spoiled place with the same paint sounds like the simplest repair, but with this line it does not work. Every further application adds pigment, so the repaired area will stay noticeably darker than its surroundings and a patch will arise that you can no longer even out. The correct procedure is to go back a step: cover the affected place with an opaque paint in the tone of the original ground, let it dry and only then apply the shade again, the whole thing at once.

Returning to a clean surface

When the damage is greater, the whole part can be cleaned with a remover for acrylic paints. A thin coat gives way quickly, but the ground goes with it, so count on priming again. That is exactly why it pays not to skimp on the ground: it holds not only the paint but also your chance of starting again without damaging the detail.

How much to apply

The brush has to be soaked enough for a small bead to travel across the part rather than a damp trace. As soon as a surplus appears in a puddle, draw it off with the corner of a paper towel, or once dry it will harden into a glossy patch with a dark edge.

With the bone and ocher tones of the same line it forms a convincing pair for wood, leather and metal that has lain outdoors a long time.
