About product

German headlights of the Second World War, 24 pieces

This is not a vehicle model but an accessory set. It holds twenty-four German headlights of the Second World War, that is, the part that repeats on every single piece of a vehicle collection and tends to be simplified in the kit box. The quantity is enough for a whole collection of vehicles and for a diorama as well.

Why 3D printing

3D printing can do what an injection mold cannot: shapes with undercuts, thin walls and openings that could never be drawn out of a mold. A part therefore comes into being straight away in the form the real thing has, instead of being split into halves with a seam down the middle. The price paid for it is the brittleness of the material.

The real subject

A headlight is an unmissable and at the same time small part on German vehicles of the Second World War. Most often it was a cylindrical body on a short bracket, on some vehicles supplemented by a cover with a narrow slit for blackout driving. In an injection-molded kit it tends to be molded as a solid piece, because a cavity with a reflector cannot be made in a mold. A printed part has the shape including the interior, so it looks like a lamp and not like a button.

Usage tips

The printed parts are brittle, so separate them from the print supports with a cut, never by breaking them. Level the cut surface on abrasive paper so that the part seats. They are glued with super glue, which you apply with a pin, not straight from the bottle. Before painting, wash the surface and go over it with a primer, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth resin. Protect your airways while sanding.

Who the set is for

  • builders of German vehicles of the Second World War
  • modelers who build several vehicles and want a stock of parts
  • makers of dioramas with several machines
  • those for whom a simplified headlight from the box is not enough

The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted as 3D-printed parts. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

Twenty-four. The stock is thus enough for several vehicles or for a whole diorama.

It is not. It is an accessory set of small parts that you fit onto models already built.

The interior of the body is modeled as well, which cannot be done in an injection mold. Once painted, it then looks like a real lamp.

The name states 1:48. The maker's product code, however, corresponds to 1:35, so check the scale on the packaging before buying.
