A cast figure of a pilot of the Japanese Mitsubishi A6M carrier fighter in 1:48 scale from the Czech manufacturer Plusmodel. A model of the Zero without a figure looks like a technical object; with a figure by the cockpit it turns at once into a scene from the deck of an aircraft carrier. The figure also shows exactly how small the machine really was.
The Mitsubishi A6M was a Japanese carrier fighter with a radial engine, exceptional range and very low weight. It was precisely that lightness that gave it superb agility, but it also meant minimal armor. Japanese pilots wore a characteristic leather helmet, goggles and a light coverall, sometimes with a life vest, and their kit differed strikingly from the Allied one.
Wash the figure in lukewarm water with detergent, cut the casting block off with a saw and glue it with cyanoacrylate. Do the leather helmet in dark brown with a light sheen on the edges and leave the coverall semi-matte in a lighter shade. Paint the goggles with a metal frame and render the glass with gloss clear and a small light spot. In 1:48 scale a grown figure works out at about three and a half centimeters.
The figure is supplied unpainted. Paints, glue and the model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
