German airfield grass pavers 1:48, the larger format from Uschi van der Rosten: a build-up sheet printed on card stock.
Responsibility details are not available.
Concrete pavers with openings through which grass grows are absolutely characteristic of German field airfields of the Second World War. They firmed the ground up under the wheels, but the surface stayed green at the same time, so the airfield was not so conspicuous from the air. This set is handled as a build-up: the elements are printed on fine card sheets and you assemble the surface out of them yourself. It is the larger of the two formats the manufacturer offers in this scale.
According to the manufacturer the box contains fine card sheets with the pavers printed on them, a bag of fine gravel intended to be mixed with acrylic modeling paste, and instructions. Neither the paste nor paints are included. The manufacturer does not state the exact area for this item either in the name or in the available data; with the smaller version of the same pair it is roughly 14 x 19 centimeters.
Cut the elements out with a sharp modeling scalpel on a cutting mat and lay them out dry before you glue anything: only while laying them out will you see how the surface joins up. Glue the card with white glue onto a flat base and weigh it down so that it does not buckle. Gravel mixed with the paste will fill the joints and the transition to the surrounding terrain. Add static grass or small tufts for the grass growing through the openings. Leave the edges of the area irregular, because on a real airfield the pavers ended somewhere in churned-up mud too.
The set is supplied unpainted. The modeling paste, the glue and the paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
