DSPIAE AT-CT, a chamfering tool

This is a hand tool, not a kit: a holder with interchangeable bits with which the edge of a hole or the rim of a part is chamfered and smoothed. After a hole is drilled in plastic, a burr and a sharp edge are left on the rim, and this tool levels it with a single turn. The maker is the Chinese brand DSPIAE. The bits are bought separately and are made in several sizes and shapes, spherical and conical alike.

Who it is for

For modelers who drill holes, make modifications of their own or work with resin, because it is with resin that the burr after drilling is most pronounced. The essential thing to know is that the holder on its own does nothing: it needs a bit of the matching diameter or shape, and that is a separate item. Think out beforehand, therefore, which sizes you will need.

The bits are sharp; keep the tool out of the reach of children. Work with light pressure and a small number of turns by hand, as very little is needed on plastic; heavy pressure will not smooth the edge but break it away. With clear parts proceed especially carefully: an abraded edge goes white and the result then has to be rescued with a gloss varnish, which can be avoided by choosing a blade bit instead of a spherical one.
