DSPIAE SS-C01 sanding discs, 1000 grit, 5 mm in diameter

Ninety-six foam discs with a self-adhesive back, five millimeters in diameter. A grit of one thousand is the finest of the four in the range and it practically removes no material, it only smooths away the marks left by the previous step. The small diameter takes it into recesses and corners as well, where a smooth surface would be hard to achieve by hand.

Why so many pieces to a package

A small disc has a small working area, so it clogs and wears out considerably faster than the ten millimeter version. Ninety-six pieces is therefore not an inflated number but realistic consumption on an ordinary build.

How to work with them

• Stick the disc onto the mandrel exactly in the center, otherwise it will run out of true.
• Keep the speed low; at a fast run a fine grain merely heats up and smears the plastic.
• Do not press; on a small diameter pressure will tear the disc off.
• Clean the part before this step, as a single grain from a coarser grit will make a scratch.
• Rinse a clogged disc with clean water and let it dry.

Who they are for

The refill is for users of the discs in this range who are finishing the surface in intricate places and preparing a part for a gloss coat or metallic paint. It is with gloss and metallic shades that every unsmoothed scratch shows up most.

It pays to keep this grit fitted on a mandrel of its own and not alternate it with coarser discs, so that no coarse grain is carried over into the fine step. Do not breathe in the sanding dust from plastic and resin; work with extraction or at least with a respirator.
