This is an additional set of turned metal gun barrels, not a model in its own right. The package holds precisely turned 150 mm barrels for the ships of the Imperial Japanese Navy in 1:700 scale. They replace the plastic barrels and give the battery a straight, symmetrical and sharp silhouette.
Guns of roughly 15 cm caliber made up the secondary and intermediate battery of a number of vessels in the Imperial Japanese Navy, from battleships through cruisers to other units. Thin, long barrels of this caliber are hard to mold straight in plastic in a small scale, which is exactly where metal barrels pay off most.
Trim the barrels to length, clear them of burrs and glue them in place with cyanoacrylate glue or a small amount of epoxy. Degrease the metal before painting, lay down a primer for metal and then the shade of the battery. A metal barrel does not warp and is more resistant to damage.
