1:24 Nissan R89C - Grade Up Parts (for Tamiya Kits) is a Studio27 photo-etched detail set for the Japanese Group C prototype. It is not a kit — it is a set of additional parts for the Nissan R89C kit from Tamiya, which you already have to own.
Responsibility details are not available.
A Studio27 photo-etched detail set in 1:24 scale. It is NOT a kit and not a finished model — it is a set of additional parts for the Nissan R89C plastic kit from Tamiya. The basic kit is not included in the package and has to be owned. The photo-etched fret is punched to the outlines of this one particular kit, and therefore it will not fit an R89C kit from another maker — there is more than one R89C kit on the market, so take care. (From the same range, the set for the Mazda 767B is intended for the Hasegawa kit instead, while the sets for the 787B and the Jaguar XJR-9 are for Tamiya.)
The Nissan R89C is a Japanese Group C prototype from the end of the 1980s — the car with which Nissan attacked the European stronghold of endurance racing. It started both in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and in the domestic Japanese sports prototype championship. Let us be honest about the results, though: the R89C won none of those great races. At Le Mans it did manage to run at the head of the field on its debut, but it did not reach the finish; its best championship results ended on the podium rather than on its top step. It is an important car nonetheless: it shows how seriously the Japanese manufacturers took Group C and how close they were to the European elite. Group C is for many fans the finest period of racing sports cars of all — brutally fast closed prototypes, a contest between the works teams of Porsche, Jaguar, Mercedes, Mazda, Nissan and Toyota, and on top of that rules built on a fuel limit: go flat out and save fuel at the same time, or you will not reach the finish.
A Group C prototype is literally threaded with intakes and radiators, and all of them are visible from the outside. A plastic kit renders them with a molded engraving — a solid pancake that merely pretends to be a grille. A photo-etched mesh is thin and you can really see through it to the inside, exactly as on the real car, and on a model that tells at once. The second essential item is the seat belts — photo-etched buckles and clasps with webbing transform a cockpit more than anything else. Fairly, on the work itself: the parts are bent (an etch bender helps a great deal), they are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, ordinary plastic cement does not hold on metal, and some plastic details have to be sanded away before the photo-etched part is applied — which you will not get back. The set is therefore for more experienced modelers: tweezers, a magnifier and calm hands. And finally: an endurance prototype belongs in a gloss finish, not in dust — clear varnish and polishing compound will do the rest of the work.
This is an additional set, not a model. The basic kit, the glue, the paints and the tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
