Ten finished model trees from the German maker HEKI, fourteen to eighteen centimeters tall. The combination of a larger number of pieces and a spread of heights is exactly what a modeler building a forest needs: single specimen trees bought one at a time tend to produce growth that is too regular, whereas ten pieces of uneven height let you build a group that looks as though it grew by itself.
The trees are pushed into pre-drilled holes or glued by the foot of the trunk. Before you start gluing, lay out the whole group dry and look at it from the place you view the layout from. Taller pieces belong at the back and at the edge, lower ones at the front, because that is how the growth gains depth. In a forest leave the trees standing close together and the ground beneath them almost bare; at the edge, by contrast, add bushes and grass.
For layout and diorama builders putting together continuous woodland, and for modelers who need a larger number of mature trees at once. The set also works as a base to which individual more striking trees are added at the front later. This is modeling material, not a toy. The manufacturer marks its scenery products as unsuitable for children under fifteen.
