Fifteen deciduous trees, height 10 to 18 cm

Finished models of deciduous trees from Heki, fifteen pieces in a height range of 10 to 18 cm. The trees are supplied finished; they are not built or painted. The number of pieces puts this set somewhere other than a single tree: fifteen crowns already create continuous growth, not just an ornament beside a building.

How big these trees are

In 1:87 scale the range corresponds to roughly 9 to 16 meters, that is to the mature trees of ordinary countryside. In 1:72 scale it works out at approximately 7 to 13 meters, and in 1:35 scale at about 3.5 to 6.3 meters, where the same trees become lower growth beside a road and in a garden. The set is therefore usable across a wide range of scales; only the role the trees play in a scene changes.

How to compose growth from them

• Place the taller pieces at the back and in the middle of a group, the lower ones at the edges, where the growth passes into open ground.
• Do not repeat the trees in the same attitude: turning the crown will make different trees out of similar pieces.
• Between the trunks add a tuft of grass, a bush or fallen leaves, so that a wood does not begin with bare ground.
• Run a row along a road with unequal spacing; an avenue at a ruled pitch looks artificial.

Setting in place and care

Seat the trunk in a hole drilled in the surface so that the tree stands without support, and secure it with glue. Hide the transition to the trunk with scatter or granulate. A continuous group of trees will serve well as a visual screen hiding the edge of a base or the join of a rear backdrop. Remove dust from the crowns with a soft brush or with compressed air from a distance; a cloth would tear the growth away.
