Fourteen deciduous trees, height 5 to 12 cm

The package holds fourteen finished models of deciduous trees from Heki in a height range of 5 to 12 cm. The trees are not built or painted; they are simply set in place on the scene. The difference in height within one package is the main advantage of the set: a group of trees of the same size gives a model away at first glance, whereas mixed planting looks natural.

How big these trees are

In 1:87 scale a range of 5 to 12 cm corresponds to roughly 4 to 10 meters, that is to young trees and self-seeded growth at the edge of a wood. In 1:35 scale it works out at approximately 1.8 to 4.2 meters, which is more like bushes and low trees by a wall or a road. The larger the scale, the more these trees become undergrowth and a second plane rather than a dominant feature of a scene.

Where to put them on a scene

• At the edge of a wood, where lower self-seeded growth passes into mature trees.
• In a copse, on a field margin and at the foot of an embankment, where a group of trees breaks up a straight line.
• In the background of a scene, where lower trees deepen the impression of depth.
• Behind buildings and by fences, where they hide the join between a backdrop and the base.

Setting in place and care

Drill the hole for the trunk in the surface so that the tree stands firm without support, and secure the joint with glue. Hide the transition between the trunk and the ground with scatter or a tuft of grass. Do not plant the trees in a row or at equal spacing; they look more natural in irregular groups of two and three. Remove dust from the crowns with a soft brush or with compressed air from a distance.
