A natural cork sheet measuring forty-nine by twenty-eight centimeters and three millimeters thick, in a dark finish. The material is flexible, cuts well with a knife and holds its shape, so anything the ready-made shapes do not cover can be cut from it.

What the sheet is suited to

Most often to leveling and filling out a cork base where ready-made strips are not enough: at turnouts, on turntables, on station areas or in a depot. The second usual application is lining tunnel bores and portals, where cork deadens sound and at the same time gives the wall texture. Natural cork also sands easily, so even a slight change of level can be shaped from it.

How to work with cork

• Cut with a sharp knife along a straightedge, as a blunt blade tears the material
• Glue with PVA glue and weigh the area down until it dries
• Sand the joints so that no step appears under the track
• Bevel the edges and the transition to the terrain will not show

It suits layout builders who work out their own shapes for the base under the track, as well as diorama modelers looking for a light, shapeable material under terrain. The dark finish suits places where the cork will remain partly visible, because it shows through scatter less.
