Scatter material, gray, 40 g

A bag of fine scatter granulate in a gray shade weighing forty grams. The material is made on a wood basis and belongs to the same line as the green and brown versions; it simply aims at areas without vegetation.

Where gray comes into its own

On surfaced lanes, a farmyard, the ground by goods sheds and ramps, that is, wherever trodden soil is mixed with clinker and gravel. It also serves well as an admixture in brown areas, where it suggests a stony base, and as a transition between the ballast bed of the track and the surrounding terrain. It is exactly these transitions that show most on a model, because nowhere in nature does one surface end in a sharp edge.

How to work with the scatter

• Coat the area with PVA glue and sift the scatter on through a sieve
• Work in smaller areas so that the glue does not dry
• At transitions, mix gray with brown in small doses
• Once dry, sweep the excess off with a soft brush and use it again
• Mix the shades with each other, as the manufacturer expressly allows for it

Safety note: this is a fine loose material that does not belong in the hands of the smallest children; do not breathe in the dust while working and keep the room ventilated. Keep leftover material in a closed bag, otherwise it takes up damp and cakes into lumps when scattered.
