A detail set in 1:32 scale that adds to a model of the P-47D Thunderbolt fighter in the form with the raised rear fuselage spine of the so-called razorback type the equipment used on search and rescue flights over the sea. It is not a model of the airplane and not a substitute for one — it is an accessory that is fitted onto a finished or part-built airframe. Behind the set stands the Turkish brand Tiger Head Models, which besides decal sheets also makes small resin accessories. The exact contents of the package are given in the manufacturer's data.
The Thunderbolt was a heavy American fighter and bomber aircraft with a radial engine, a long range and a sturdy structure. The early versions had a raised spine behind the cockpit, which gave the whole form the nickname razorback. Besides combat tasks, machines with a long range were also used for escort and for searching for downed crews over water; for that purpose they carried special slung equipment that could be dropped to survivors. In 1:32 scale such accessories are clearly visible and they markedly change the story a model carries.
First wash the castings in warm water with a drop of dish soap, so that the mold release agent comes off them — without that neither glue nor paint will hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc; never snap them off. Do the sanding wet and with respiratory protection, because resin dust is fine and irritating. It is glued with super glue based on cyanoacrylate; cement for plastic has no effect on resin. Before spraying, it pays to treat the surface with primer.
