A set of cast modeling resin from the Turkish brand Tiger Head Models, intended for models of the F-8 E Crusader carrier fighter in 1:48 scale. It is not a model of the airplane and not a part of a kit, but a detail accessory that is added to a finished model and turns it into a scene of an aircraft parked on deck or on an apron.
The Crusader draws air for its engine through a single nose intake under the forward fuselage. On a model this opening usually gapes into emptiness and gives away at first sight that there is no duct and no engine behind it. Real practice offers an elegant solution: as soon as an aircraft is parked, the technicians slide a cover into the intake, which prevents dirt and small objects from getting into the compressor. Foreign object damage to an engine is a permanent threat in carrier aviation, which is why such covers tend to be conspicuously colored and fitted with warning flags so that nobody overlooks them before a start. On a model, therefore, one part both deals with an empty intake and gives you a splash of color that brings the whole composition to life.
First wash the resin castings in lukewarm soapy water, so that the remains of the mold release agent disappear from the surface; without that the paint holds badly. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a knife, never snap them off, and protect your airways while sanding, ideally sanding wet. It is glued with super glue, preferably a gel, because ordinary cement for plastic has no effect on resin. Before painting apply a thin layer of primer and only onto that the rich shade of the cover. Leave the fitting to the very end, after the model has been varnished and weathered, so that the striking part does not get dirty.
The accessory is supplied unpainted and without the base model. Glue, paints and the kit are not part of the package, unless stated otherwise.
