The tool looks like a slim pen and serves to get the fluid for emphasizing panel lines exactly into the engraved line and nowhere else. The tip is dipped, laid against the line, and the paint runs into it by itself by capillary action. Compared with going over the line with a brush, the smearing across the surrounding surface is gone, and with it the laborious wiping away of the excess. The body is of aluminum alloy, so it has a reasonable weight and the tool does not wobble in the fingers.
Dip only the very tip and guide it along the line without pressure. The fluid needs time to run, so make the stroke calmly and rather repeat it than press. Wipe the excess away only once it has dried, with a cloth moistened in the matching thinner. After work rinse the tip out, or dried paint will block the channel and the capillary action will stop working.
The tip is a consumable part and spares are sold separately. The fluid for emphasizing lines is not included in the package; choose it according to the finish you will be applying it over, so that it does not dissolve the paint underneath.
The tool is worth combining with an aid for removing the excess. Going over a line and wiping the surroundings are two steps, and doing them with one cloth means smearing even what was meant to stay in the engraved line. The applicator itself does not clean the surroundings; it only leads the fluid where it belongs.
