The large-format bust of a German tank commander in winter dress is in 1:10 scale and is seated in a section of the drum cupola of an early Tiger heavy tank.

A bust in 1:10 scale is a different kind of work from a whole figure. The torso ends below the chest, but the head comes out at over two centimeters, so the face, the eyes and the texture of the skin carry the whole impression the finished piece makes. Royal Model has joined the figure here with a section of the drum commander's cupola, which also serves as a natural plinth.
An extensive surface forgives not even a slight unevenness, so the casting is sanded smooth before painting and inspected against sharp side light. The transitions on the cheeks are layered with oil paints or heavily thinned acrylics in many thin coats; the iris is painted with the finest brush there is and finished with a drop of gloss varnish, so that the eye comes alive.
German crews got the white face side of the winter outfit after the experience of the winter of 1941, when the frost crippled hardware and men alike. The drum cupola with vision slits belonged to the first series of the Tiger heavy tank and disappeared from production around the middle of 1943, so the bust captures a short and precisely bounded period, roughly from the commitment of the first heavy tanks at Leningrad to the great summer tank battle of 1943.
The casting arrives unpainted; the wooden base under the bust is chosen by each modeler to suit their display case.
