An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet small jet airliner Yakovlev Yak-40 in 1:144 scale from Zvezda. This is a newer mold with a fine engraved surface, clear parts for the windows and the cockpit glazing and a decal sheet. The small 1:144 scale makes the model a rewarding piece for a display case and for collectors of airliners with limited space.
The Yak-40 was the first Soviet jet aircraft for local and regional routes. It entered service at the end of the 1960s and was marked out by three jet engines arranged at the rear of the fuselage and a straight wing. Thanks to them it could operate even from short and unpaved strips that larger jets could not reach. It was built in large numbers and served with many carriers and state operators all over the world.
Bond the plastic with thin modeling cement and sand the fuselage seams and the joints of the rear engine nacelles carefully. Mask the windows and glazing so that the finish does not bleed in. On an airline scheme a smooth gloss primer and a clean application of white and silver pay off, because any unevenness shows on a gloss surface. Apply the decals over gloss varnish so that no silvering appears at the edges. The fine panel lines take light weathering.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included, unless stated otherwise.
