The third item in the numbered range intended for large figures and busts. The resin castings hold a crisp rendering of the knuckles and nail beds, which is exactly what is expected of a replacement part in a large scale. The manufacturer is the Italian brand Royal Model.
A hand two centimeters long is a different discipline for a painter than a hand of a millimeter. It calls for smooth transitions, because a sharp boundary between light and shadow immediately looks like a crust here. A proven approach is to start from a middle tone into which a lighter and a darker shade are gradually mixed, letting the individual coats show through.
The back of the hand tends to be darker and with a hint of olive, the palm side warmer and pinker. The knuckles of the fingers will take a fine emphasis toward red, while the nails take a cooler and less saturated tone than one would expect. Oil paints allow the transitions to be blended even after they are applied; layering with acrylics is faster but calls for more steps.
Sheen plays the same part as the shade. Skin is neither matte nor glossy; it sits somewhere in between, and that is why you should bring the whole figure together at the end with a semi-gloss coat and return the gloss to the nails only.
