A resin set of tracks for models of the Pz.Kpfw VI Tiger I heavy tank in 1:16 scale. It is not a model of the tank but an accessory for the builder who wants the running gear more carefully worked than the track supplied in the box allows. In 1:16 scale the track is conspicuously large and its shape and surface carry a large part of the final impression, which is why it pays to give it separate attention on large models.
The Tiger I had interleaved road wheels and an exceptionally wide combat track, which spread the weight of the machine over soft ground. Its width was precisely the reason why the tank was reshod with a narrower transport track for carriage by rail and why the outer row of wheels was also changed on the running gear. The form of the combat track developed during production, so later pieces differ from the early ones in the shape of the link and the traction features. For a model that means that the choice of track type is not cosmetic but part of identifying a particular machine.
First wash the castings in lukewarm water with dish soap, so that the mold release agent disappears. Remove the casting blocks with a sharp knife, level the surfaces and do the sanding with respiratory protection. With the Tiger the safest procedure is to try the track dry before the outer row of interleaved wheels goes onto the chassis: threading the track over a finished running gear is much harder. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). For painting, reach for dark steel or a brownish base, then lighten the edges and contact surfaces with a metallic pigment and weather the whole with dust and mud according to the setting in which you place the model.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
