The winter jacket of an American tanker in 1:16, version number 3 is a 3D printed resin casting intended for large figures and for fitting out hardware.
Responsibility details are not available.
This piece completes the pair of earlier versions of the same garment and is printed in resin by 3D technology. The digital preparation shows in the crispness of the hems and in how cleanly the knitted cuffs are drawn out. The size corresponds to figures one hundred and twenty millimeters tall; the garment is supplied unpainted.
The shade of American equipment was never uniform. Under sun, rain and washing a saturated olive shifted toward gray-green and on into a faded khaki, and the shoulders and back lost their saturation fastest. On a single garment it therefore pays to mix two close tones and to leave a gradual transition between them rather than a sharp boundary.
A cotton surface and a knitted collar with cuffs behave differently. Cloth holds its shape and reflects more light, while a knit is dense, matte and tends to be a shade darker, because more grime works into it. Once those two are set apart, a small piece of clothing gains depth at once. Traces of oil and grease belong on the sleeves and the bottom hem, that is where the crew leaned against the machine. Cyanoacrylate glue holds the part reliably, but no remnant of a support may be left on the mating surface, otherwise the garment will stand off.
