Le Rhône 9J, a French rotary engine of the First World War, 1:32 is a CMK resin detail set: a faithful model of a nine-cylinder rotary aircraft engine.
Responsibility details are not available.
This set from the Czech maker CMK is a standalone add-on, not an aircraft kit. It holds a finely cast resin model of the French nine-cylinder Le Rhône 9J rotary engine from the First World War period. The cylinders, the intake and the other elements usually come as separate parts, which allows the engine to be built up faithfully and displayed on a model of a period aircraft.
The Le Rhône 9J was an air-cooled rotary engine in which the whole cylinder block turned together with the propeller around a fixed crankshaft. It powered a number of Allied fighters and trainers of the First World War, for example the Nieuport 17 and 27, the Hanriot HD.1, the Sopwith Camel and the Bristol M.1C. It was also built under license by the German company Oberursel.
Wash the mold release agent off the parts, cut off the casting blocks and bond them with super glue (cyanoacrylate). The engine comes out well in metallic shades, with the cylinders picked out gently with a wash and the ignition harness set apart in a different tone. Wear respiratory protection while sanding resin.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
