An injection-molded plastic model of the British single-seat Royal Aircraft Factory S.E.5a fighter biplane in 1:32 scale from the Roden brand. Unlike the version with the French Hispano-Suiza engine, this kit captures the machine powered by the British Wolseley W.4a Viper - a license-built and revised derivative of the Hispano with direct drive and higher compression, which became the standard powerplant of the type. The kit offers finely engraved surfaces, separate control surfaces and a detailed cockpit; the build includes the bracing wires.
The S.E.5a was one of the most successful British fighters of the end of the First World War - a sturdy, fast and stable machine popular with a number of aces. The British-built Wolseley Viper engine removed the supply problems of the original Hispano-Suiza and made it possible to get production of the type fully under way; machines with this engine made up most of the later production.
Assemble and paint the cockpit and the engine before you close the fuselage. Clean up the fine struts and exhausts carefully. Glue the plastic parts with liquid modeling cement for plastic, then fill and sand the joints. Apply a primer before painting and spray the paints with an airbrush in thin coats. Add the bracing wires only after painting, using elastic rigging thread; finish the wooden and fabric-covered surfaces with glazes and washes.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
