A turned metal barrel of the Russian 30 mm 2A42 automatic cannon in 1:35 scale from the Polish manufacturer Aber, which is among the very best in making photo-etch and turned metal barrels. It is not a standalone model but a precise extra part for a model of the BMP-2 or BMD-2 combat vehicle, with which you replace the plastic barrel from the kit.
The 2A42 is a Russian 30 mm automatic cannon, the main armament of the BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicle and the airborne BMD-2. It is marked by a long slender barrel and is the most prominent feature of the turret of these vehicles.
Why a metal barrel: the plastic barrel from the kit is never perfectly straight and carries a mold seam around its circumference that has to be laboriously sanded away. A turned metal one is perfectly straight, without a seam and with a precisely made muzzle, and because the barrel is the most prominent line of the whole model, the difference shows at first glance. Cut the original plastic barrel off, clean the mating surface and glue the metal part in with super glue (cyanoacrylate). Degrease the metal before painting and give it a primer if needed.
This is an accessory for a model, not a standalone model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
