This photo-etched detail set from the Italian maker Royal Model is intended to refine the load bed and superstructure of a model of the Italian AS.42 Sahariana desert reconnaissance vehicle in 1:35 scale markedly. It replaces simplified plastic elements with thin, scale-faithful metal parts: floor gratings, handles, equipment brackets and small fittings. It is not a model of the vehicle but an upgrade fitted to a kit that has been built. The set is intended for the Italeri kit.
The SPA-Viberti AS.42 Sahariana was an Italian light reconnaissance and raiding car deployed in the Second World War above all in North Africa. It came about for operations in the desert, where a large supply of fuel, water and ammunition carried on the open body was what counted. It is exactly the clearly visible load bed with its quantity of equipment that makes this vehicle an ideal object for photo-etched detail.
Separate the photo-etched parts with a sharp knife on a hard surface and make the bends over the edge of a ruler for clean edges. Use super glue (cyanoacrylate) for gluing, or a small amount of two-part adhesive on larger areas. Apply a primer before painting; sandy and ocher shades with dry dust weathering suit a desert scheme.
This is a supplementary detail set, not a complete model. The Italeri base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
