Weighted wheels for the DUKW amphibious vehicle are resin replacement castings in 1:35 scale with bulged tires.
Responsibility details are not available.
A resin replacement for the wheels of the American DUKW amphibious truck in 1:35 scale, shaped with the tire bulging under load. The casting captures not only the flattening of the footprint but also the way the sidewall of the tire bulges outward, which is hard to achieve on an injection-molded part.
The DUKW came about in 1942 on the chassis of the GMC truck and combined road mobility with swimming. The vehicle could swim from a transport ship right onto the beach and carry on overland to a distribution point, which was a key link in supply at the landings in Sicily, in Normandy and in the Pacific. It was among the first production vehicles with a central tire inflation system, so the driver could lower the pressure before driving into sand and let the tire spread out over the surface. It is exactly that state the set captures.
First rinse the castings in warm soapy water and remove the casting residues. Dry-fit the hub in the seat of the kit and hollow it out if necessary, so that the wheel sits on the axle. Lay a primer under the resin before painting. A tire should not be black but dark gray, which is then brightened by a fine dusting of pigment according to the terrain the model stands in.
The package contains only the replacement wheels; the vehicle itself has to be obtained separately.
