Workable tracks for the E-100 (1:35, Trumpeter)

The set contains individual plastic links, from which you assemble a fully workable track as a replacement for the soft tracks from the box. It is intended specifically for the kits of the German heavy tank E-100 from Trumpeter and sits exactly on its drive sprockets and running gear.

The real subject

The E-100 was a German project for a super-heavy tank at the end of the Second World War, which never got beyond a partly built chassis. Its exceptionally wide tracks were meant to spread the enormous weight of the machine, and it is exactly their faithful rendering that gives the finished model its scale authenticity.

Building and painting tips

Separate the individual links carefully from the sprue gates, clean them up and join them section by section. Until the glue sets, leave the track workable so that it wraps naturally around the wheels and forms a realistic sag. Use liquid modeling cement for plastic. Paint the tracks separately from the hull; for the patina, dark washes in the recesses, metallic dry-brushing on the wear edges and dust pigments work well.
