An injection-molded plastic kit of the heaviest German gun that reached field service in the Second World War. Scale 1:35, made by Trumpeter. This is not a vehicle but a towed artillery piece, so the model makes the natural center of a diorama with a firing position.
The 12.8 cm gun came about as an answer to the ever more heavily armored Soviet tanks. Its projectile had such energy that it could deal with any target of the day, and at ranges where the gun itself was beyond reach of any reply. The designations Kanone 43 and Kanone 44 belong to the same weapon in successive production forms, while the abbreviation in brackets points to the design by the Rheinmetall company. The competing form from the other maker differed mainly in the layout of the carriage. Only a small number were built and they were deployed mostly on the Eastern Front in the closing stage of the war. A weight in the order of ten tons meant that the gun was essentially dug into its firing position once, and moving it afterwards was a lengthy business.
Assemble the carriage on a flat surface, so that the trails and the wheel bogies all sit in the same plane. Paint the long barrel before you seat it and check that it lines up on the axis. A late German camouflage scheme with brown and green over a dark yellow base suits the weapon. Mud on the underside of the carriage, footprints in the soil and ammunition crates around the position give the scene life.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
