1:35 German crew cleaning a gun barrel is a Royal Model figure set that captures the everyday maintenance of a tank gun.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set captures German tankers cleaning a gun barrel, that is at work that was repeated after every firing and that brings natural action to a diorama. The plural in the name suggests that it is more than one figure; the exact number of figures and parts is not stated here. The 1:35 size matches ordinary kits of armored vehicles.
After a shot, residues of combustion gases and copper from the driving bands of the projectile stay in the grooves of the bore. If they were not removed, accuracy would fall and a case could jam in the chamber. Crews therefore used a sectional cleaning rod, which was screwed together into a long pole and drawn through the barrel. It was work for several men, because the assembled pole was long as well as heavy and had to be held on the axis. At the same time it was an opportunity to take the jacket off and work in a shirt or in work clothing.
The scene stands out with a tank that has a long barrel, where the work is visible at first glance. Work clothing will take a different palette from a combat uniform: faded cloth, oil stains and dirty knees shift the whole scene into a more civilian register. The hands and forearms deserve a darker tone because of the grease.
The set comes unassembled and without a finish. Paints, glue and material for a base have to be obtained separately, unless stated otherwise.
