A boy with an ice cream sitting on a washed-up naval mine: that is the subject of the resin set 1:35 Ice cream time from Royal Model.
Responsibility details are not available.
An unusual subject from the output of the Italian brand Royal Model. A small boy is enjoying an ice cream while sitting on a washed-up naval mine that the sea threw onto the shore in the English county of Kent. The castings are resin and arrive unpainted and unassembled.
The British coast was dotted with moored mines during the Second World War, and storms regularly tore them off their cables. The washed-up spheres with their horns then lay about on the beaches, where local children treated them as a playground until the bomb disposal men arrived. It was from situations like these that the wartime photographs came which still look amusing and chilling at the same time. The set carries that contrast into 1:35 scale and tells a whole story in a diorama with a single group.
The mine deserves more work than the figure: under the paint belongs a pronounced texture of scale and sea deposits, and the lower part is usually overgrown with weed and shells. Combine dark washes with pigments and leave the bottom dirtier than the top. Keep the boy's clothing clean and colorful instead, so that it sets off against the rusty sphere. Join the parts with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) after washing off the mold release agent.
Paints, glue and a base for the beach are not enclosed.
