Laser cut wooden parts for one outhouse in 1:35 scale. A small structure that gives a scene a rural setting and a human dimension.
Responsibility details are not available.
An outhouse does not get into a display case for its beauty but for its truthfulness. An outbuilding of this kind stood beside farm buildings, isolated homesteads and outlying holdings in central and eastern Europe throughout the first half of the twentieth century, and in period photographs you will find it in the background of columns, resting squads and improvised headquarters. The moment a tracked vehicle drives in between a farmhouse and a barn, it is exactly an outbuilding like this that makes the difference between an empty set and an inhabited place.
The whole little structure is built on laser cut wood. The cut is sharp, the grain stays visible and the surface takes wood stain and oil paints differently from resin. The planks will therefore accept a weathered finish, worn edges and gaps with the interior showing through.
It works best away from the main axis of the scene, by a fence, at the edge of a yard or behind a barn, where a farmer would really have put it. Grayed, weathered wood contrasts well with fresh greenery and with the mud of rutted tracks, and thanks to it the viewer realizes at once that the place was inhabited long before the soldiers arrived.
